When your pet would benefit from expertise outside our hospital, we’ll also help coordinate appropriate specialty care.
How do you help nervous or anxious pets feel comfortable?
We take time to understand each pet’s temperament and adjust our approach whenever possible. A calm environment, gentle handling and communication with you about your pet’s preferences can make veterinary visits easier for everyone.

What happens if you are fully booked when my pet needs care?
Call us and explain your pet’s symptoms. Our team can help assess the urgency and determine whether we can accommodate the situation or whether another veterinary or emergency facility would be a safer and faster option.
Why might my pet need to be referred to a specialist?
Although we can manage many conditions in-house, some pets benefit from a board-certified specialist, advanced procedure or round-the-clock facility. When a referral is appropriate, we’ll explain why and help you understand the next steps.
Do you care for pets other than dogs and cats?
Yes. Our team sees a variety of exotic pets, including rabbits, rodents, reptiles, turtles, sugar gliders and others. Because exotic-pet appointments may require specific scheduling or veterinary availability, please call us before your visit.
Can I request a particular veterinarian?
Absolutely. We understand that continuity and familiarity are important, especially when a doctor already knows your pet’s history. When scheduling allows, we’re happy to arrange an appointment with your preferred veterinarian.
What should I do if my pet has an urgent medical problem?
Please call us as soon as possible so our team can understand what is happening and determine the safest next step. Depending on your pet’s condition, our current capacity and the time of day, we may arrange care at Battleground or direct you to an emergency hospital equipped to provide immediate treatment.
Can every emergency be treated at Battleground?
We provide extensive veterinary care, but there are situations in which a dedicated emergency or specialty hospital is the safest option for your pet. Our priority is helping you reach the level of care your pet needs as quickly as possible, even when that means directing you to another facility.
Will I know what my pet's treatment may cost before moving forward?
Whenever possible, our team will explain the recommended diagnostic or treatment plan and associated costs so you can make an informed decision. Veterinary cases can change as new information becomes available, and we’ll communicate with you when recommendations need to be adjusted.
How can I make sure the veterinarian understands all of my concerns?
Bring a list of symptoms, medications, behavioral changes and questions to your appointment. We encourage you to share anything you’ve noticed—even something that seems minor—so our veterinary team can build the clearest possible picture of your pet’s health.
